• HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND RISK ANALYSIS
The goal of ISO 45001 is the monitoring for compliance and
reduction of occupational injuries and diseases, including
promoting and protecting physical and mental health. ISO 45001
replaces OHSAS 18001. Hazard identification and risk assessment
(HIRA) study offers a systematic approach to assess hazards and
their associated risks. HIRA Safety helps to determine the
objective of an identified hazard and provide the technique to
manage the risk. It involves systematically identifying potential
hazards, assessing associated risks, and implementing control
measures to mitigate these risks. The significance of HIRA lies in
its ability to prevent accidents, minimize financial losses, and
maintain a safe working environment. HIRA in Safety is a process
that consists of a number of sequential steps such as hazard
identification, likelihood and consequence assessment, risk
evaluation based on the existing controls and recommendations to
reduce those risks which are not under acceptable limits.
JSA is a job safety analysis that identifies hazards and risks
associated with a specific job.
• CONSULTATION & PARTICIPATION OF WORKERS
Worker participation means that workers are involved in
establishing, operating, evaluating, and improving the safety and
health program. Consultation is required when identifying hazards,
assessing risks and deciding on measures to eliminate or minimise
those risks. In deciding how to eliminate or minimise risks, you
must consult with your workers who will be affected by this
decision, either directly or through their health and safety
representative.
Benefits of consultation may include:
Reduction of workplace injuries and illnesses.
Reduction of workers' compensation costs.
Increased knowledge and awareness of good health and safety
practices.
Strengthened health and safety management systems.
Improved overall health and safety culture.
Improved employee morale.
• INCIDENT, ACCIDENT & INVESTIGATION
Investigating a worksite incident- a fatality, injury,
illness, or close call- provides employers and workers the
opportunity to identify hazards in their operations and
shortcomings in their safety and health programs. Most
importantly, it enables employers and workers to identify and
implement the corrective actions necessary to prevent future
incidents.
Incident investigations that focus on identifying and
correcting root causes, not on finding fault or blame, also
improve workplace morale and increase productivity, by
demonstrating an employer's commitment to a safe and healthful
workplace.
Incident investigations are often conducted by a supervisor,
but to be most effective, these investigations should include
managers and employees working together, since each bring
different knowledge, understanding and perspectives to the
investigation.
• LEGAL & OTHER COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS
Legal compliance refers to the process by which businesses,
customers, vendors, and employees adhere to internal, state, and
federal laws and regulations. The goal of an ongoing legal
compliance program is to protect the organization and its key
personnel from excessive fines and unfavorable litigation.
